Laboratory theatre

Laboratory is a term that has been applied to theatre venues and companies in order to tap into the notion of theatre as a scientific and exploratory process, and the notion of “experimental theatre” and improvisational processes which rose in the 20th century an became prominent in the avant garde theatre of the 1950 –1970 period in Europe and the USA. Jerzy Grotowsky is perhaps the most dominating figure in this respect, with his Polish Laboratory Theatre setting the example. **** Used in the tiles of venues and companies (“''The Market Laboratory''” or simply The Market Lab) Related to Workshop. ***
