L'Imbecille ("The imbecile" or "The idiot") is an Italian one-act comedy by Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936)[1].

First produced in Rome at the Teatro Quirino by the company Somali, October 10, 1922.

Originally published in Italian in 1922.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into English as The Imbecile.

Translated into Afrikaans by Con de Villiers, entitled Die Idioot. The typewritten text is available at the Stellenbosch University Library, Manuscripts Section. Reference 31/27/7.

Performance history in South Africa

1943: Performed in Afrikaans as Die Idioot, directed by Anna Viljoen for K.A.T. in November 1943 starring Marguerite I. Murray.
