Klaaglied vir Koos is the title of a a novel and a play by Lettie Viljoen (pseudonym of Ingrid Winterbach)


The original text

A tale about a woman left behind when her husband leaves to fight in the Border War during the liberation struggle. The irony is that he supports the enemy, therefore he is a traitor.

Translations and adaptations

The novel was adapted for the stage by Barney Simon and Christo Leach.

Performance history in South Africa

Directed by Barney Simon for the Market Theatre at the Laager, opening 6 August 1986 starring Aletta Bezuidenhout. Design by Patrick Curtis.
