Kiss of the Spiderwoman (Spanish: El beso de la mujer araña) [1] is a 1983 stage adaptation by Argentine author Manuel Puig (1932-1990) [2] of his novel of the same name. English translation by Alan Baker.

The original text

Kiss of the Spider Woman is a 1976 novel by Argentine author Manuel Puig. It depicts the daily conversations between two cellmates in an Argentine prison, Molina and Valentín, and the intimate bond they form in the process. (Wikipedia [3])

Performance history in South Africa

1989: Staged by NAPAC, directed by Murray McGibbon. Gary d'Alessandro as Valentin.

2009: Presented by The Company (probably KickstArt Theatre Company) at the Catalina Theatre, directed by Clare Mortimer, November 2009.

2011: A production directed by Lynne Maree, starring seasoned actor Brian Webber as the effeminate window-dresser, Molina, who has been imprisoned for gross indecency and Garth Collins as Valentin, jailed for his revolutionary activities was staged in a performance area at the Joburg Theatre called Space. com.
