A melodramatic tragedy in four acts by Johann Heinrich Daniel Zschokke (1771–1848)[1].


The original play

Written by Gottlieb Wetzinger and published in Graz, 1797.

Translations and adaptations

Translated by an anonymous translator into Dutch as Julius van Sassen and published in Amsterdam by H. van Kesteren, 1805.

Performance history in South Africa

1829: First performed in Dutch translation in Cape Town by Tot Nut en Vermaak on 22 August, along with De Sint Nicolaas Avond, of Het Bezoek door den Schoorsteen (Kup).

1833: Performed in Dutch by the company Tot Nut en Vermaak on 12 October, with Jocrisse in Eenen Nieuwen Dienst (Dorvigny)
