An adaptation from ''[[La Fille du Regiment]]''[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_fille_du_r%C3%A9giment] (''[[La Figlia del Reggimento]]''), an opera in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848), with a French libretto by Jules Henry Vernoy de Saint-Georges, ‎Jean François Alfred Bayard. It was first performed on 11 February 1840 by the Paris Opéra-Comique at the Salle de la Bourse.
 
 
 
Buckstone based his work on the French version and his play was first performed at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in March, 1844, and published in London by [[T.H. Lacy]], 1856.
