John Cartwright

John Cartwright is a scholar, teacher and academic administrator, as well as a creative writer and performing artist.

Biography

He studied at the University of Cape Town and Oxford University,

In 1965 he became a lecturer in English at the University of Stellenbosch and in that period performed in plays put on by the newly founded Drama Department and local theatre associations. He has since had many years of experience as teacher, researcher and administrator in universities in South Africa, the United Kingdom and Canada. In 2001 he began working on innovative projects in community policing and is currently a Research Fellow at the Global Risk Governance programme at the University of Cape Town.

As actor

Stage roles over the years have included Die Koning Sterf (UTS, Stellenbosch, 1966), The Rivals (UTS, Stellenbosch, 1967), Arms and the Man (UTS, Stellenbosch, 1968)


As playwright

He wrote A New Birth (a nativity play, 1982), .
