Born on 6 January 1930 in Bethal in the Transvaal. Went to school in Lindley in the Freestate. Studied graphic art and sculpture in Paris, France from 1952 to 1955. After his return to South Africa he became a full-time artist and sculptor and settled on a farm near Pretoria.

Biography

Born on 6 January 1930 in Bethal in the Transvaal. Went to school in Lindley in the Freestate. Studied graphic art and sculpture in Paris, France from 1952 to 1955. After his return to South Africa he became a full-time artist and sculptor and settled on a farm near Pretoria.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Johan van Heerden played roles in three South African (Afrikaans-language) feature films: Die Vlugteling (directed by Gordon Vorster, 1960); Jy's Lieflik Vanaand (directed by Gordon Vorster, 1962); Die Ruiter in die Nag (directed by Jan Perold, 1963);
