Johan is one of the most commonly found first names in Afrikaans, and Fourie is equally widespread as a surname in South Africa, thus there are a number of individuals involved in theatre named Johan Fourie.

Johan Fourie (19**-19**)

Biography

Johan Fourie (19**-19**) was an actor, director and touring company manager.

He started off with the Kaapstadse Afrikaanse Toneelvereniging (K.A.T.) before becoming fully-professional. Played in Die Kwaksalwer (19*) for André Huguenet. * In the 1950s and 1960s he toured rural towns with his own professional company, the Johan Fourie Toneelgeselskap, one of the last to do so.

He was contracted to visit 130 platteland towns with Die Laaste van die Takhare in the name of and in co-operation with CAPAB in 1966. CAPAB paid R50 per performance, box-office takings were presumably for the account of the contracted company.
