As in the case of "Pieter", Johan is one of the most commonly found first names in Afrikaans, and Fourie is equally widespread as a surname in South Africa, thus there are a number of individuals involved in theatre named Johan Fourie.


Johan Fourie (19**-19**)

Johan Fourie (19**-19**) was an actor, director and touring company manager.

Biography

He started off with the Kaapstadse Afrikaanse Toneelvereniging (K.A.T.) before becoming fully-professional. Played in Die Kwaksalwer (19*) for André Huguenet. * In the 1950s and 1960s he toured rural towns with his own professional company, the Johan Fourie Toneelgeselskap, one of the last to do so. His wife, Lida Meiring, was also a member of the company.

He was contracted to visit 130 platteland towns with Die Laaste van die Takhare in the name of and in co-operation with CAPAB in 1966. CAPAB paid R50 per performance, box-office takings were presumably for the account of the contracted company.

He passed away in 1977.
