(1928-2001) English actor. A short, tubby English comedian best remembered for his television sketch shows of the 1960s, such as Baker's Half-Dozen and the eponymous Joe Baker Show. Baker was born in London in 1928, the son of vaudeville performers, and throughout his career he regularly played in pantomimes and musicals, most notably in ''Joey Joey'' (Saville, 1966), Ron Moody's story of the life of Joe Grimaldi, the clown, and in a production of George Gershwin's ''[[Lady Be Good]]'' (Saville, 1968), which teamed Baker with Lionel Blair. Performed in South Africa in December 1967 in [[George Black]] and [[Alfred Black]]’s touring production of  ''[[Let Yourself Go]]''. Moved to the united States in 1975 and died in California aged 73.
