Jenny Stead (19**-). Actress and cabaret artist.

Biography

Toured abroad with Truth in Translation, returned to South Africa, after a two-year break she settled in Cape Town with her family and retuned to the stage in 2011.

Training

Completed a B.Dram Honours at the Drama Department at the Stellenbosch University Drama Department in 1999.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Jenny performed in student productions of Paradox (1996), A Midsummer Night's Dream (1997), Robin Hood (1998), The Crucible (1999), The War of the Worlds (1999).

Her first professional work was in two cabarets directed by Blaise Koch (3D on Broadway in 1999 and It’s a Koch-up in 2000).

In 2000 she also appeared in woMANize (directed by Anton Luitingh) and played Jocelyn in Glass Roots by Fiona Coyne at the Baxter Theatre and at the Grahamstown Festival in 2000 as well as at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees in 2001.

Some other productions include Breathing In (2004), Noises Off (2005), The Secret Love Life of Ophelia (as Ophelia, 2005, Truth in Translation (Market Theatre 2006 and on tour), Perfect Wedding (2011), Champ (as Cardenio, 2012-2013), The Rocky Horror Show (as Janet, 2013), The Comedy of Errors (as the courtesan, Maynardville 2012), Cardenio (2013), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (2018), The Glass Menagerie (as Laura Wingfield, Artscape 2019).

Jenny has also appeared on film and television.

She was nominated for a Fleur du Cap as “Most Promising Student” in 1999 and won a Fleur du Cap as best supporting actress for her role as Annie in Breathing In in 2005.
