Jane Potgieter (1927-). Actress, singer, manager.

Biography

Youth

She was born on 20 May 1927 and grew up on a farm in the Humansdorp district, Eastern Cape.

She was married to Pieter Geldenhuys for a number of years.


Training

Jane studied at the University of Stellenbosch. She obtained a fully bilingual licentiate in drama from UNISA. She took singing lessons with Esther Mentz. She obtained a diploma in teaching from Rhodes University.


Career

She joined NTO in 1955 and eventually became business manager of the English company. She later joined Wena Naudé’s company. She then settled in Humansdorp, teaching English at the High School.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She played in Gelukkige Dae, Tobias and the Angel and a small role in The Winslow Boy.

Stage manager for Bell, Book and Candle.

She played the lead in Thérèse Raquin.
