LODGE, James (1915-*?). Journalist and dramatist. After working full-time as a journalist and editor with first the Pretoria News and then the Cape Argus, Lodge was once considered a very promising writer on the strength especially of his four full-length plays, Andromeda, Earthquake, Strawberry Love and Investigations into the Death of a Greek. However, having written these when already in retirement, he never quite fulfilled his promise. He is also the author of two one-act plays: Have a Heart, Mrs. Dove! (1970) and The Frightened King (1970). (See Gosher, 1988) [JH
