He is also referred to variously as Van der Chys, T. van der Chys and (wrongly?) as T.J. van der Chys by Bosman (1928: p. 321).

He resided at Kerkstraat (Church Street) no 7, Cape Town, and was the organiser of productions for Door Yver Bloeit De Kunst in 1833, and for Vlyt en Kunst in 1834, working with C.E. Boniface who had taken over the artistic leadership of the company.

He also featured as a character and performer in the satire Clasius by Boniface (1834).
