The original text
Though mentioned by D.C. Boonzaier (1923) as one of the plays done by Emilie Bevan and her company, no such play can be found. F.C.L. Bosman (1980) suggests it may have been a play called [[A. Fanequez called Is She Guilty? - though no record of either the title or the playwright have been found.

Performance history in South Africa
1892: Performed in the Vaudeville Theatre, Cape Town, by the visiting Emilie Bevan Comedy Company as part of a three-and-a-half month season of 20 plays which began on 8 August. It is uncertain which text was used in this case.
