In the Ranks is a melodrama by George Robert Sims (1847–1922)[1] and Henry Pettitt (1848–1893)[2].

The original text

It played for 457 performances at the Adelphi Theatre, London, in 1883. It was shown at the Standard Theatre in New York in the same year.

Performance history in South Africa

1890: Performed in the Vaudeville Theatre, Cape Town, during March and April by the Chambers Theatrical Company, under the management of Emma Chambers. The cast consisted of Will R. Bernard, Albert Marsh, Joseph Ashman, Edward Vincent, Harold Selwyn, George Herbert, Affey Bevan, Emilie Bevan, Emma Chambers, Roy Aird.

1902-3: Performed by Disney Roebuck, under the auspices of the Mouillot-De Jong Company, at the Opera House, Cape Town, as part of a season of musical comedy and light opera beginning in December of 1902 and running into 1903.
