LOUW, Illka (19**-) Designer. Lecturer.

Career

She started out as a fashion designer but she was drawn to theatre subsequently worked at Artscape as Ladies' Costumier before becoming Head of Wardrobe at UCT Drama Department in 1997. She lectured in the history of costume for University of Cape Town Drama Department undergraduates. She also freelances as a costume and set designer.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Her freelance set and costume designs include The Fire Raisers (Baxter), Chess, Die Ballade van Koos Sas, Ghoema, District Six – The Musical, The Tempest (2009).

Training

She holds a National Diploma in Fashion design from the Cape Technikon as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Theatre Design fromthe Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.
