Ilanga Lizophumela Abasebenzi (“The sun will rise for the workers”) is a play largely in isiZulu. The workshopped play evolved out of the experiance of workers involved in a labour dispute at a metal factory in Boksburg. It is one of the worker plays which deal with labour and social and political themes. The narratives of most of the worker plays produced thus far focus on the oppressive and exploitative workplace experiences which lead to strike action and struggles with management, or on larger national issues, including racism, ethnicity, the politics of gender, etc.
