Husband and Wife

Husband and Wife is a farcical comedy by F.C. Phillips (1849-1921)[1] and Percy Fendall (1850-1917)[2].

Also found as Husbands and Wives and even, in one instance, as Husbands and Wife (sic).

The original text

The play opened as Husband and Wife at the Criterion Theatre, London, on 27 April, 1891. Later played at the Athenaeum Theatre, London, 7 July to 17 October, 1891, the thrud act apparently considerably rewritten.

A performance of the play opened at the Grand Opera House, London, Ontario, on Monday, 23 January, 1893.

Performance history in South Africa

1904: Performed (and remembered by D.C. Boonzaier, 1923, as being billed Husbands and Wives) by the George Giddens in the Good Hope Theatre, Cape Town, under the auspices of the Wheeler Company in April.
