Hugh Ardale (1874–1965) was a British actor

Not to be confused with "Captain Hugh Ardale", a leading character in Pinero's The Second Mrs Tanqueray.

Biography

Born Hubert Ernest Irish on March 2, 1874 in Banwell, Somerset, England, he adopted the stage name Hugh Ardale and made a career as an actor for stage and film.

He worked for the Strand Theatre and Charles Arnold's English Comedy Company, going on international tours with Arnold between 1900 and 1902, inter alia visiting Australia and South Africa, appearing in plays such as An Empty Stocking (), What Happened to Jones (Broadhurst), The Professor's Love Story (), Hans the Boatman (Greene), Why Smith Left Home () and The Grey Parrot ().

His film work includes uncredited roles in The Young Mr. Pitt (1942) and Tomorrow We Live (1936).

He died on June 12, 1965 in Bournemouth, England.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He was a member of the cast of What Happened to Jones (Broadhurst), performed by Charles Arnold and the touring London company, when they played in South Africa in January of 1900.
