H. Branscombe

H. Branscombe (fl 1870s-1890s) was a British actor.

Sometimes billed as Mr Branscombe

Biography

He is probably the same person as the H.L. Branscombe whom Wearing (2013) lists as one of the actors in The Real Little Lord Fauntleroy (Burnett) when performed at Terry's Theatre, London in 1891. He played "Higgins".

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

A member of a strong new company that Disney Roebuck had recruited in England for his next season in South Africa. The company, that also included Mabel Hayes, Bella Murdoch, Julia Sydney, T.G. Warren, T. Morton, Wilfred Bayley, Sidney Beltram, and others, arrived on the Balmoral Castle arrived in Cape Town in 1879. Besides its season in Cape Town and other towns and cities, the company offered some entertainment on board ship, among other pieces a performance of Leap Year, or The Ladies' Privilege (Buckstone) on 28 November, 1879 - Branscombe acting as prompt.
