Gordon Spence was a Port Elizabeth Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager. He started his theatrical career when a friend asked him to help with the staging of the Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society production of "The King and I". In 1971 he travelled overseas and picked up some valuable theatre-craft experience after stage-managing many professional shows.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

1974: The Gondoliers, directed by Noel Morgan. Stage Manager and technical adviser to set designer, Alex Kiddie. He was in charge of the construction of the sets.

Was Stage Manager or assistant for Brigadoon, Romeo & Juliet, Ali Baba", The Student Prince, Showboat, Annie Get Your Gun and South Pacific.
