LOUW, George. (1939-) Playwright, poet, journalist.

Biography

He was born on the farm Meintjiesplaas in the district of Sutherland in 1939. He is a nephew of N.P. van Wyk Louw and W.E.G. Louw.

Youth

He attended school in Cape Town.

Training

He studied at the University of Stellenbosch and continued his post-graduate studies at the University of Cape Town.

Career

He worked for Die Burger, Die Huisgenoot and lectured at the University of Cape Town.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Plays include Die Generaal, 1972; ‘n Skip is Ons Beloof, 1969;


Awards, etc

In 1963 he was awarded the Eugène Marais Prize for his poetry.
