Biography
Youth
Training
Went to school at Grey College, Bloemfontein, studied at the University of Cape Town and later became a teacher and Associate Professor there. Also studied at York University Toronto.
Career
He became a teacher and Associate Professor at UCT.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Won the Rosalie van der Gucht Prize for New Directors in 1989 and went on to become a successful director of student and professional work in Cape Town.
He has appeared on stage in The Glass Menagerie.
Productions as director include Old Wicked Songs, Barrymore, Madman, A Night in November, The Ghost Sonata, Strangers on a Train, The Yellow Wallpaper, Via Dolorosa, Between (Cape Town 2013), Habeas Corpus, Women Beware Women, The House of Bernarda Alba (UCT), The Trojan Women (2000), Madame de Sade (1987 and 1997), Kissed by Brel, Deathwatch (1992), Agamemnon (1990), Blood Wedding (2005), As You Like It (2009), The Blue Room, Titus Andronicus (Cape Town 2014).
He was also involved with French Gray, Miss Margarida's Way, Macbeth 2004, Twelfth Night 2006.
Co-wrote and directed Sacred Elephant (Cape Town 2012).
Décor and costume A Doll House, designed The Rimers of Eldritch.
He is one of the judges for the awarding of the Brett Goldin Bursary.
