Gay Morris (19**-). Academic, actress, director.


Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She had a part in the workshopped production All in a Tangle...Op 'n Hoop Geknoop.

She was one of the editors of the 2014 publication Playing Culture: Conventions and Extensions of Performance. Amsterdam: Rodopi.

Roles in Peer Gynt (1968), When Thou Art King (1971), Biography (CAPAB 1971), The Tragedy of Tragedies, or The Life and Death of Tom Thumb the Great (CAPAB 1972), A Flea in Her Ear (CAPAB 1971).

Voice coach for the 1980 production of Marat/Sade.

Directed La Musica (1968), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1971), Dumela Talulah (1990), a UCT students’ production of Mary Barnes (2003).

She wrote a number of articles that were published in academic journals such as South African Theatre Journal and Theatre Research International.

She was one of the major forces in TAG, a co-ordinating body and cultural organisation formed in 1990.

Her master’s thesis on Rosalie van der Gucht was completed in 1989.

She served on the Performing Arts committee, 1990s.

She was head of University of Cape Town Drama Department until 2003. Joined Drama for Life at the University of Witwaterstrand (Wits) in March 2015.
