Quoted from the programme of [[Pieter Toerien]]'s ''[[Snake Beneath the Rose]]'' in 1986: 'Gavin started ballet training at the age of 10 under the tutilage of [[Trevor Dodd]], and later with Ivy Conmee. At 14 he entered the Johannesburg School for Art, Ballet and Music under [[Marjorie Sturman]], [[Ruth Inglestone]] and [[Josie Pretorius]]. Matriculating in 1977 with a distinction in practical ballet, he studied architecture at Wits University, graduating with a BA in the subject in 1983. He maintained his interest in dance during the academic period, dancing The Poet in ''[[Les Sylphides]]'' and achieving excellent results in ballet exams and competitions under the coaching of Ruth Inglestone. Gavin is presently doing his Masters Degree in Urban Design and appearing in television productions.

Biography

Training

Quoted from the programme of Pieter Toerien's Snake Beneath the Rose in 1986: 'Gavin started ballet training at the age of 10 under the tutilage of Trevor Dodd, and later with Ivy Conmee. At 14 he entered the Johannesburg School for Art, Ballet and Music under Marjorie Sturman, Ruth Inglestone and Josie Pretorius. Matriculating in 1977 with a distinction in practical ballet, he studied architecture at Wits University, graduating with a BA in the subject in 1983.
