Gary Carter. (19*-) Actor, director, playwright.

Biography

Born in Zimbabwe, grew up in Port Elizabeth.

Training

Studied drama at the University of Cape Town, 1983.


Career

He joined CAPAB Drama's permanent company in January 1984.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He appeared in The Taming of the Shrew, Betrayal (as The Waiter 1984), Falstaff, Bremen Coffee, Francis, Antigone (Sophocles), The Insect Play, As You Like It, Re:Vamp for CAPAB and in London Assurance for NAPAC.

Directed The Broken Heart, The Ride Across Lake Constance.

He co-wrote and directed the musical Re:Vamp.

He wrote Anger is not a place I like to be (NELM Collection: WILSON, Diane]: 2012. 18. 2. 14. 1); The Pandora effect: a double act for a soloist, Neil McCarthy (NELM [Collection: WILSON, Diane]: 2012. 18. 2. 14. 2).

Awards, etc

Winner of the Fleur du Cap Theatre Award for Most Promising Student in 1983.
