The Free Filmmakers Cooperative was a loose association of filmmakers started in the 1980s.

The organization

Based in in Johannesburg, it was founded in the 1985 to create a relevant South African cinema. Founding members included William Kentridge and Angus Gibson.

Among the films produced under the auspices of the FFC was the documentary film Freedom Square and the Back of the Moon (William Kentridge and Angus Gibson, 1986)
