The original text
First produced at the Queen's Theatre, London, as The King of Prussia on 24 July, 1837. Published in the same year as Frederick of Prussia, or The Monarch and the Mimic by Duncombe (no XXVII) in London. Later also editions by Dicks (No 423) and T.H. Lacy/S.French (French's acting edition No 478).

Performance history in South Africa
1859: Performed by the Cape Town Dramatic Club and other amateurs, as part of the Great Volunteers Parade in Durbanville, Cape Town, on 6 October, with Whitebait at Greenwich (Morton).
