Festen is a 1998 Danish film, produced by Nimbus Film and directed by Thomas Vinterberg (born 1969) [1].

It is about the celebration of a respected patriarch's sixtieth birthday and the events on the morning thereafter.

Translations and adaptations

The film was released under the title The Celebration in the United States.

The stage version by Vinterberg was adapted into English by David Elridge [2], entitled Festen.

Elridge's adaptation was translated into Afrikaans by Hennie van Greunen, setting the play in South Africa.

2007: Festen in Afrikaans was produced by Van Greunen, directed by Heinrich Reisenhofer, starring Johan Botha, Stian Bam, Nina Swart, Neil Sandilands, Chris Fourie, Deon Lotz, Johann Nel, Pedro Kruger, KKNK and other festivals.
