He started on stage as a member of the Serpent Players, starring in works such as Athol Fugard's The Blood Knot, (directed by Benjy Francis, Upstairs at the Market, 1976), Hamlet (Glass Theatre 1982), Night of the Long Wake by Dukuza ka Macu (The Dhlomo Theatre, 1983), The Blacks (PACT 1989), The Mighty Gents (Market Theatre), Hallelujah! (2000)'

In the 1970s he also moved on to film and TV. Films include The Wild Geese (1978), Cry, The Beloved Country (1995), Legend of the Hidden City (1997), Chikin Biznis (1998), Mr Bones (2001), Stander (2003) and The Wooden Camera (2003). TV roles in Soul City (as Baba D) and Muvhango.
