Line 1: Line 1:
An amateur company active in Cape Town circa 1843-1847. Also known as the Private English Amateur Theatrical Company and Private Amateur Company. They played in the "Dutch Theatre" in Roeland Street and their secretary was A. van Breda. It appears to have been made up of Dutch players (including E. de Roubaix, Maynier, De Wahl, Combrink, etc.) performing in English. Groom describes attending a performance of The Miller and His Men in 1843, and they did The Castle Spectre (Lewis) and Comfortable Lodgings (Peake) on 6 November 1847.
