SERFONTEIN, Emile (1977-1999) was a South African actor.

Biography

He was born and raised in Mossel Bay in the Southern Cape Province circa 1977.

He was killed in a road accident near Oudtshoorn while he was playing a role at the KKNK 1999.

Youth

Training

He did not have formal drama training.

Career

He joined the New Life theatre company in Mossel Bay. The company devised its own workshopped presentations and performed locallt and in Europe.

He moved to the Cape where he joined the Breughel Teatergroep.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He had a role in Ek, Anna van Wyk, a KKNK/State Theatre/Playhouse Company/PACOFS/CAPAB co-production directed by Marthinus Basson. In 1998 he played Ritsos in Breyten Breytenbach's Boklied, also directed by Marthinus Basson.

He had a role in a feature film by Akin Omotoso.

Awards, etc

He was awarded a regional Vita Award in Bloemfontein in the category Most Promising Portrayal for his role in Boklied.

He was nominated for a Cape regrional Vita Award in the category Most Promising Performance by a New Actor-Actress for Twelfth Night, 1998.
