Career

Joined the Plaat-Stultjes Geselskap in 1930 and toured with a number of plays. In 1934, on the death of Jean Plaat-Stultjes, continued touring with some of the plays. She joined the renewed Hanekom Company on their tour of small Free State towns with Oom Paul in 1935, playing "Esther". However, she married her co-actor* Willie Beckmann (who had played "Danie" in Oom Paul) in the same year and they formed the Elsa Fouché Geselskap to tour with In die Mag van Tiberius. Went on to perform for the National Theatre Organisation.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

With Plaat-Stultjes Geselskap she performed in East Lynne, Wania, In die Kloue van Satan and Moederloos. With Hanekom Company she was seen in Oom Paul in 1935, playing "Esther". Went on to perform for the National Theatre Organisation i.a. in Iepekonders (1953), Ek Onthou vir Mamma (1954), Verkiesing sonder politiek!, Die Vonkel in haar oë! - 'n Spel van my kontrei (Gerhard J. Beukes, 1960).

Other roles include Eldorado, Ai, Die Liewe Martha!, Agt Vroue, André Huguenet – Meneer!, Bitter Einde.

She had a role in the film Jy's Lieflik Vanaand.

She directed Die Gevaarlike Vrou.
