A tragedy in 3 acts.
According to Groot (2010, p56), this Dutrch text was most probably a translation by S. van Goor of Le divorce par amour, by Joseph Patrat, which in turn was a French version of Kotzebue's original Der Opfertod.
Van Goor's Dutch translation of the French text was published 1803.
Performance history in South Africa
Performed in Cape Town by Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense on 26 September 1815, followed by De Wanhoop van Jocrisse (Dorvigny, Translated by Ogelwight, Jr.). According to Bosman, (1928, p.556) the main play (Eerzucht...etc) was credited to Patrat's French version, but they used a translation by H. Kup.
