Edmund Mhlongo "Muzi". (1966-). Playwright, musician and director.

Biography

Born in Natal, he resides in Kwa Mashu.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Author of the Zulu musicals such as We Are Alive (1996), Cry Not Child (1997), Our Voice, Our Rights (1999), Bayede Shaka: The Spear is Born (2001-2002), No Excuse, presented at the Catalina Theatre from 7 to 17 July 2005 and Madame President, a musical : presented by E-CAP at The Playhouse Drama Theatre, Durban, from 26 August to 6 September 2009.

In 2008 his play Just don't... do crime was staged at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre.

Mhlongo has also done extensive radio and TV work.

He founded the KwaMashu Community Advancement Projects (K-CAP), a youth integrated arts and multimedia empowerment organisation.

Awards, etc.

He received a special award presented by the Durban Theatre Awards (award year 2003).

He was honoured by the city of Durban in 2015 with its annual Living Legends Award.
