Biography

Born and raised in Pretoria.

Training

She obtained a B.A. Degree in Drama at the University of Pretoria in 1988.

Career

Since 1989 a member of the Drama Company of PACOFS. Became a freelance actress in 1992, moving to Johannesburg.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Played comedy, serious drama, farce, musicals for PACOFS. While there she was directed by Jannie Gildenhuys as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, played with Petru Wessels in Christine and with Ernst Eloff in Equus. She appeared as Sue Lawson in Flikflooie and as Lika in My Arme Marat (1990). As freelance actress she was directed by Pierre van Pletzen in the Afrikaans version of When the Cat's Away and in 1993 she played Harriet Johnson in the English version of the same play, directed by Rex Garner.

She also performed in Liewe Heksie, My Liewe Meneer Malan, Oedipus Rex, Oedipus by Hugo Claus, 'n Brommer in die Boord.

She wrote the plays Aap uit die Mou, Lyk Lollery, So 'n Plooi kan Looi.

Dorette appeared in the television productions Egoli, Konings and Torings.
