A term referring to a play based on (though often ficionalizing aspects of) factual events. (Also referred to as documentary plays or docudrama.) Numerous such plays were created during the anti-apartheid cultural struggle, often utilizing improvisational techniques. The programme notes for Barney Simon & Co’s Born in the RSA (1985) for example typifies that play as a docudrama. Also known as a Documentary Play.
