Die Verhoor

Die Verhoor (“The Trial”) is a 1970 Afrikaans play by André P. Brink. A dramatization of the 1830s rebellion by the Dutch farmers of the Eastern Cape border against British Colonial rule. First published by Human and Rousseau in in 1970.

Die Verhoor is an Afrikaans translation by Chris Fourie of The Trial, a 1972 one-act play for women by Anthony Booth.

Performance history in South Africa

1973: First produced by PACT.

1980: Louis van Niekerk as Bezuidenhout directed by Francois Swart.

Translated into English by Michael Venables entitled The Road to Slagtersnek. Presented by PACT Drama at the State Theatre Pretoria, directed by Louis van Niekerk assisted by Ben Kruger in May 1986. In the cast were Johan Malherbe (Andries Stockenström), Frans Kalp, Eric Nobbs (Frederik Bezuidenhout), Bill Curry, Gert van Niekerk, Kurt Egelhof, Pieter Brand, Ben Kruger, Chris van Niekerk, Ronel Kriel, Natalia da Rocha, Albert Raphael, James Winkler, Speedo Wilson. Lighting designer Jacques Mulder.
