Die Tweede Dood van Robey Leibbrandt ("The Second Death of Robey Leibbrandt") was the first play written by Afrikaans journalist Cas van Rensburg. It takes a closer look at Robey Leibbrandt (1913-1966) [1] the South African Olympic boxer, WWII German secret agent and freedom fighter against the British influence and political power within South Africa. He was infatuated with Hitler and schemed to murder General Smuts. The play is an investigation of the Afrikaner psyche and the identity crisis behind the ideals of the pure “volk”.
