Die Silwer Sambreeltjie is a childrens' operetta, with a libretto by Coenraad Frederik Rudolph (1919- 1981)[1] and Anna L.B. Rudolph, with music by Pierre Malan.


The original text

Written at the request of the National Committee for the Water Year (South Africa) and the libretto first published by DALRO (Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation) in 1970.


Translations and adaptations

Translated into English by Mervyn Woodrow as The Silver Umbrella, and the two texts published in one volume in 1970.

Performance history in South Africa

1972: Performed on 8 September as part of the opening ceremony of the Laerskool Monumentpark ("Monument Park Primary School") in Pretoria.
