[[P. de Waal]], the brother of playwright [[J.H.H. de Waal]], wrote a one-act farce, similar to his brother's piece called ''[['n Les oor die Tier|'n Les oor di Tier]]'', for the [[CJV]] of Cape Town's [[Nieuwe Kerk]]. The two plays were later combined to create this play, now called ''[[Die Selfsugtige Skoolmeester]]''.
