Die Hoop van Suid-Afrika ("The Hope of South Africa") by C.J. Langenhoven. A serious pageant style play based on the history of the voortrekkers and specifically written for the first celebration of Dingaansdag ("Dingaans Day" or Day of the Vow/Covenant as it later became known) in Oudtshoorn. Written in eight days, first published (with commentary)in Het Zuid-Westen on 10 November 1913, and first produced by the "entertainment committee" of the Dingaansdagkomitee ("Dingaan's Day Committee) in the Gaiety Theatre of Varieties in Oudtshoorn on 16 December 1913. Among the amateur performers were Frank Muller Rex as "Father Time" and C.J. Langenhoven as "Piet Retief".
