Die Ehe des Herrn Mississippi ("The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi") is a play by the Swiss author and dramatist Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921-1990) [1]. The play was written in 1950, but Dürrenmatt continued to revise it until 1980. It premiered on 26 March 1952 at the Munich Kammerspiele, directed by Hans Schweikart. The play was adapted into a 1961 German film with the same title [2].

Translated by Pieter Fourie into Afrikaans under the titles Die Huwelik van Mnr. Mississippi and Olympia en Haar Vryers.

Performance history in South Africa

1972: The Fourie Afrikaans translation Olympia en Haar Vryers was staged by PACOFS, directed by Pieter Fourie.

1973: The Fourie Afrikaans translation Die Huwelik van Mnr. Mississippi was presented by CAPAB Afrikaans Drama, directed by Pieter Fourie, in the Nico Malan Theatre, opening 25 October and from 14 November in the H.B. Thom Theatre. Decor by Raimond Schoop, costumes by Jennifer Craig. The cast: Louw Verwey (Florestan Mississippi), Marga van Rooy (Anastasia), Alec Bell, Johan Botha, Mees Xteen, Pieter Geldenhuys, Marie Pentz, Paul Slabolepszy, Pieter de Swardt. Stage manager Mavis Lilenstein.
