A satire on gambling in Russia.


Translations and adaptations

Translated into English, it was and adapted by Winifred Katzin and published in English in Short Plays from Twelve Countries, a collection of one act plays selected and edited by Winifred Katzin (London: George G Harrap and Co., 1937)

Katzin's English text, described by Gosher (1988) as a "heavy-handed adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s text", was later also published as a playtext by DALRO, 1969.
