Desmond Morley (Des) (19**-20**) was a Durban producer and theatre manager.

Biography

He originally trained as a telephone technician, but became involved in theatre and in 1961 was appointed Administrative Director of the Lyric Theatre in Umbilo (previously known as the Planet Cinema), Durban. There he presented numerous productions, including such major musicals as The King and I, The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz. He staged his production of The King and I at the Empire Theatre in August 1963.

He later stopped producing and disappeared into Northern Natal where he ran a trading store for a while, before joining the Department of Post and Telecommunications as a telephone technician.

After his retirement he wrote several novels and had them published.
