("The Night Watchman") A German comedy in one act by Carl Theodor Körner (1791 – 1813).

First produced in the Vienna Burgtheater in 1812, also published that year.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as De Nachtwacht by a number of authors, including (possibly) by Joseph Suasso de Lima (1825, unpublished); by Salomon Deventer (published in 1844) and by G. de Vos (published in 1852).

Performance history in South Africa

1825: Performed in Dutch as a two-act comedy in Cape Town by the children's company Tot Oefening en Smaakon 10 September, probably translated/adapted from the German and directed by Joseph Suasso de Lima. With Het Dal van Almeria (Von Kotzebue) and De Verjaring (Anon.).
