Der Graf von Walltron, oder die Subordination ("The Count of Waltron, or The Subordination") is a German tragedy in five acts by Heinrich Ferdinand Möller (1748-1798)[1].

Written and published in Vienna in 1776.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as De Graaf van Waltron, of De Subordinatie in 1777 and published in Amsterdam by Wed. P.J. Entrop, 1778. Termed a "krygspel" ("military play”, with scenes of military action) by the Dutch translator.

First performed in Dutch in the Amsterdamse Schouwburg ("Amsterdam Civic Theatre") on 14 April 1789.

Performance history in South Africa

1825: Performed in Dutch by Tot Nut en Vermaak on 6 August in De Liefhebbery Toneel, with De Gevaarlyke Buurman (Von Kotzebue).

1831: The Dutch text performed on 10 September by Tot Nut en Vermaak in Cape Town with De Dronkaard (Kotzebue).

1836: The Dutch text performed on 29 October 1836 by the Stellenbosch amateur company Door Yver Vruchtbaar in the local amateur theatre, with De Helleveeg (Loosjes).
