He has appeared on stage in Die Jakkalsstreke van Scapino (UTS 1963), Don Carlos, Cowardy Custard, My Three Angels, She Stoops to Conquer, Drie De Meester, Electra, Op Hoop van Seën (1964), a production in Afrikaans of Antigone (by Jean Anouilh) (1965) for which he also designed the decor.

Deon wrote a master's thesis on W.E.G. Louw as theatre critic (1972) and complete a doctoral dissertation ons theatre criticism in South Africa in 1974 ([[ESAT Bibliography Jo-Jz|Joubert, Gideon Jacobus).
